Two Fayette Co. High students selected for U.S. Army All-American Marching Band

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Two young women from Fayetteville are among only 125 students nationwide to be selected for the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Malia Corbin and Rose Wilmot will join an elite group of American musicians for a halftime performance at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

Both girls attend Fayette County High School, where Wilmot plays the saxophone and Corbin is a member of the color guard.

LOCAL PROFILE: NFL Linebacker Rennie Curran

LILBURN -- Former Brookwood High School football standout, Rennie Curran is patiently waiting for a new jersey. Over the past two years, Curran went from the University of Georgia to LP Field in Nashville and now he's back at home.

Curran was released shortly after this year's NFL pre-season, despite leading the team in tackles during the pre-season.

Since being cut, Curran has been training at Catalyst and other gyms to ensure that when he does get a call, he wont miss a step. Curran is pretty confident he'll be wearing someone's jersey soon.

Man indicted for defrauding universities

Man indicted for defrauding universities

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- A Fayetteville man has been indicted for an alleged scheme to defraud colleges and universities planning overseas trips for their sports teams.

Dale Brannan, 65, owned a company called Transport Athletes that swindled several schools out of a total of $400,000.

"This defendant is charged with taking advantage of collegiate student-athletes, their parents and fans, and the universities they attend, all of which had paid and prepared for overseas trips, and allegedly cheated them of not only their money, but also the opportunity to compete abroad," said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.

According to information presented in court, Brannan took money from the universities to arrange airfare and hotel reservations in Brazil, China, Finland and Italy.

Subway celebrates 500th Metro Atlanta store

Subway celebrates 500th Metro Atlanta store

ATLANTA -- With the arrival of several new stores this month, Subway celebrates the opening of more than 500 stores in Metro Atlanta since its first location in 1977.

This milestone is a testament to the Subway brand and the franchisees who have made it so successful in the Atlanta area -- not to mention the world, as Subway is the planet's largest restaurant chain with over 34,000 locations.

"We continue to offer a dining experience that meets the changing tastes and needs of our loyal patrons, so it is no surprise to see this important achievement," said Christi Estis, director of operations for Subway Development of Atlanta. "We could not have reached this milestone without the dedication of our model franchisees and employees.
