ATLANTA – A Fayetteville man is celebrating a Georgia Lottery win. Ocie Burns Jr. of Fayetteville won the $338,506 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the March 11 drawing, matching all five winning numbers to claim the prize.

Burns claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Helmer Hwy 85, 8439 Highway 85 in Riverdale, sold the lucky Quik Pik ticket.

“I had the ticket sitting on my computer desk,” Burns explained. “It sat there for a week, and I decided to check it before throwing it away.”

A quality auditor for an aerosol plant, Burns repeatedly checked the results on the Georgia Lottery’s website.

“I checked it like five times to be sure,” he said.

Ecstatic over his windfall, Burns intends to pay off his home mortgage and invest the remainder.

Winning numbers from the March 11 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 7-10-19-20-31.

Shop with a Sheriff comes to Fayette

Shop with a Sheriff comes to Fayette

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is providing a special Christmas for 35 local children.

The office's Shop with a Sheriff program, now in its sixth year, gives deputies the opportunity to take needy children on a holiday shopping spree at Walmart.

Most of each child's Shop with a Sheriff allotment goes to warm clothes. Any leftover money can be spent on toys.

Deputies said that, in the past, most children were more concerned about buying clothes and gifts for their siblings and parents than themselves.

This year's Shop with a Sheriff event will be held Dec. 15 at the Fayetteville Pavilion Walmart.

Anyone interested in making a tax deductible donation to Shop with a Sheriff can mail a check to P.O. Box 143606, Fayetteville, 30214. Donations can also be made online at shopwithasheriff.com.

"We intended to follow suit and open at midnight, but decided opening earlier was a better move to create a more opportune Black Friday shopping experience," Gladstone added.
