Fayette County couple killed in house fire

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- A Fayette County couple was killed in a house fire early Friday morning.

Robert and Susie Ison died in a blaze at their home on Grant Road in Brooks, Ga.

One of the couple's daughters, Rebecca Ashmore, said that she had just left the home to take a group of children to school.

"My brother pulled my mom's air conditioner unit out of her window trying to get in there and couldn't," Ashmore said. "They were yelling for them, nobody answered. It was just really, really, really bad."

Pete Nelms, the director of Fayette County Emergency Management, said that crews were able to get inside the home due to heavy flames.

The family's five dog also perished in the fire.

Family and friends say Robert was always full of laughter and extremely friendly to his neighbors and those around town.

"He will definitely be a legend in Fayette County for sure," Ashmore said.

His wife, Tommie, was remembered as a loving partner who brought smiles to everyone she encountered.

A fund has been set up for the family. Donations can be made to Wells Fargo under the The Bobby & Susie Ison Donation account or to Rebecca Ashmore.
