Humane Society holding pet adoption weekend

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- This weekend is National Pet Adoption Weekend, and the Fayette County Humane Society is making it easy for residents to bring home a new cat or dog.

The Humane Society will hold a pet adoption fair at the Peachtree City PetSmart this weekend. Every pet adopted will net the Humane Society a $35 donation from PetSmart Charities.

Animals will be available for adoption from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2; from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3; and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4.

The Peachtree City PetSmart is located at 2701 Highway 54.

Walk to support Piedmont Fayette Hospital

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- The second annual Cancer Wellness Walk for Piedmont Fayette Hospital will be held next month in Peachtree City.

RELATED | Run a holiday race in metro Atlanta

Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Fayetteville hospital's Cancer Wellness Center.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Drake Field.

Register online or by mail. The cost is $20 for adults or $30 for one adult and one child.

Watch party for local Olympian Kelley O'Hara

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- Fayette County residents will come together Thursday to cheer for one of their own -- a local girl who just so happens to be an Olympian.

Kelley O'Hara grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Starr's Mill High School. She is a member of the U.S. Olympic women's soccer team, which will compete against Japan for the gold medal Thursday afternoon.

A watch party for O'Hara and the rest of the women's soccer players, including the Atlanta Beat's Carli Lloyd, will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Mike & C's restaurant in Peachtree City. The gold medal soccer match is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m., Atlanta time.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend and show their support for O'Hara.

Humane Society to host pet portrait fundraiser

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- The Fayette Humane Society will host a portrait fundraiser this weekend.

The Dog Days Pet Portrait event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. It will be at Heart is Found Photography in Fayetteville.

Call 770-631-7676 to schedule a time to have your pooch photographed. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society.

Heart is Found Photography is located at 110 Genevieve Court.
