Piedmont Fayette Hospital to host blood drives

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Piedmont Fayette Hospital is giving citizens two opportunities to donate blood in the coming weeks.

The hospital will host American Red Cross Blood Drives on Wednesday, Apr. 24 and Thursday, May, 9. Both events will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

To give blood, a donor must be at least 17 years old and 110 pounds. One person can give blood six times a year, or once every 56 days.

Chamber to host Partners in Education breakfast

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast reception for the school district's Partners in Education later this month.

The event will be held Tuesday, Apr. 23 at 8 a.m. at Spring Hill Elementary School.

Several awards will be presented at the breakfast, including the Outstanding Business Partner of the Year, Outstanding Fayette County School and the Junior Entrepreneur Award.

Muriel Summers, principal of A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School in Raleigh, N.C., will be the keynote speaker. A.B. Combs is the first leadership elementary school in the U.S.

Spring Hill Elementary is located at 100 Bradford Road in Fayetteville.

Tea Party, NAACP to debate Tuesday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Representatives from the Fayette County NAACP and the Local Issues Tea Party will host a debate on the question of district versus at-large voting in the county.

NAACP member Wayne Kendall (district voting) and Local Issues Tea Party leader Bob Ross (at-large voting) will square off Tuesday, Mar. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

The debate will be held at Harvest Community Christian Center in Fayetteville. It is free and open to the public.

Harvest Community Christian Center is located at 383 Fayette Place.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

ATLANTA -- Josh Groban is giving a live preview concert of his new album in New York City, but local fans won't have to travel far to watch the performance.

Josh Groban Live: All That Echoes will be screened at several theaters across metro Atlanta.

The concert will be broadcast live on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. Groban will perform some of the biggest hits from his 12-year career, as well as songs from his sixth studio album, All That Echoes, which hits shelves Feb. 5. He will also answer fans' questions submitted via Twitter and text message.

"To have the chance to perform songs new and old and interact with Q&A with fans across the country is truly awesome," Groban said in a statement. "Fathom (Events) gives me that reach using state-of-the-art visual and sound at your local movie theater to experience a concert experience unique to any other. What a great way to kick off the album release!"

College expo coming to south side

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- Students in Atlanta's southern suburbs will have the chance to attend a local college fair at the end of the month.

The Go to College Expo will be held at the Country Inn & Suites in Fairburn on Saturday, Jan. 26.

College recruiters will be on hand to answer questions about financial aid and the schools they represent. The fair is geared toward high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults and veterans who wish to return to school.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Country Inn & Suites is located at 7815 Senoia Road, just off Interstate 85.
