AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest open

ATLANTA -- Calling all artists: the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is now accepting entries.

Designers have until Friday, Feb. 28 to submit their works of art. All entries will be whittled down to five finalists, which will be unveiled on ajc.com/peachtree on Saturday, Mar. 15.

No one will see the winning design until race day, when it will adorn tens of thousands of finishers' T-shirts.

"The AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is a great way to showcase the work of our local artists, and we are always impressed with the entries we receive," Atlanta Track Club interim executive director Sue Payne said in a statement.

Whoever wins the contest receives $1,000, while each of the four finalists gets $100.

Casting call for 'Drop Dead Diva,' untitled movie

TYRONE, Ga. -- A feature film and a cable TV show are both looking for paid background extras.

An open casting call for Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" and an untitled movie will be held Saturday, Jan. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Legacy Theatre in Tyrone.

Casting directors ask that only experienced stand-ins apply. All attendees must be at least 18 years old and should bring a résumé and headshot to the call.

The following types of people are needed for the call:

* Female "model" types (tall, leggy, fashionable)

* Fashionable men with runway flair

* Beverly Hills lawyer types with upscale wardrobes

* Blonde and brunette men and women with healthy tans, defined jawlines and prominent apperances

ATLANTA -- Many of metro Atlanta's most talented performers, directors and theater crew members descended on DeKalb County Monday night for the 2013 Suzi Bass Awards.

Every year, the Suzis honor the best theater productions in the area. Awards are given in two areas -- plays and musicals.

The Aurora Theatre's staging of Les Misérables was one of this year's big winners. It took home five Suzi Awards, including Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Director of a Musical and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

Berry students win national journalism award

ROME, Ga. -- Seven communications majors at Berry College placed third in this year's Association for Editors in Journalism and Mass Communication's Newspaper Project Award.

This annual award goes to college students and professors who produce special publications and projects connected to their courses.

Berry's winners received their award for "The Jews of Florence," a multimedia project they created during a study abroad trip to Italy in summer 2012. The students developed more than a dozen stories of minority groups living in Florence as far back as the mid-15th century.

Crossroads Guitar Festival film coming to Atlanta

Crossroads Guitar Festival film coming to Atlanta

(WXIA) -- Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013 was held at Madison Square Garden in April.

Those who missed this gathering of legendary guitarists can still experience it -- without leaving metro Atlanta.

A special film presentation of the festival will screen at several theaters on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. It features behind-the-scenes footage and some of the best concerts from the two-day jam session.

Musicians featured in the film include Gregg Allman, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Mayer, Keith Urban and, of course, Eric Clapton.

"The Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival has long been one of the premiere events in music, and communities of fans nationwide will enjoy the ultimate concert experience on the big screen with amazing sound and front row seats," Dan Diamond, senior vice president of business development for NCM Fathom, said in a statement. Fathom will host the Aug. 13 film screenings.

Josh Groban film to have encore screening

ATLANTA -- A film of Josh Groban's February concert at New York City's Allen Room will return to metro Atlanta in July.

All That Echoes Artist Cut will be screened in select theaters on Tuesday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. The movie includes the entire Feb. 4 concert, as well as a behind-the-scenes journey through production of Groban's sixth studio album, All That Echoes, and a Q&A session with the singer's fans.

"The event will include a lot of new footage, a huge amount of behind-the-scenes of the making of 'All That Echoes' and everything that went into it," Groban said in a statement. "If you weren't able to go last time, maybe you can come this time, and if you did go last time and you want to do it again, come bring a friend."
